Solid waste management: an analysis of publications in the period of 2000-2012

The present study aims to analyze the characteristics of publications on solid waste management in the database Web of Science (WOS) in the period of 2000-2012, as well as identify the hot topics related to the theme. The main results showed that scientific production related to solid waste management, increased gradually until the year of 2009, representing the largest year production period. In the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 was showed a decline in production-related theme. The publications are related mostly to the two thematic areas: "Environmental Science and Ecology" and "Engineering". Among the journals with the highest number of publications, highlight the Waste Management, Waste Management Research; Resources Conservation and Recycling, Journal of Environmental Management, Journal of the Air Waste Management Association. China leads the ranking of the countries that publish about the subject, followed by the United States. The combinations of theme solid waste management (solid waste management) with the environment (environment), recycling (recycling) technology (technology), planning (planning), strategy (strategy) and political (policy) were classified as hot topics.
