Wild animals are run over by automotive vehicles, causing death along highways. It is estimated that 476 million wild animals are killed each year in Brazil. The North Pantanal, is the bioma in Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, is a region that has come through its history of use and occupation, suffering great anthropic pressures, mainly mining activities, sport and predatory fishing, introduction of species, agriculture, livestock and urbanization. The MT - 040 highway (Estrada-Parque Santo Antônio - Barão de Melgaço with 112 km to Barão de Melgaço (Pantanal Norte). The objective of this study was to record the running over of wild animals by motor vehicles along the Estrada Parque. The corpses of the run over animals were photographed and identified by specialized zoologists, using geo-referenced photos, resulting in the occurrence of 86 (eighty-nine) animals, belonging to 7 different orders, 9 the following species,
totalizing: 34 Capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), 10 Coati (Nasua nasua), 6 Giant Anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), 1 Beautiful Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis), 12 Wetland Alligator (Caiman yacare), 7 Giant Anteater mirim (Tamandua tetradactyla), 17 brown dog (Speothos venaticus), 1 anaconda (Eunetctus murinus) and 1 boa constrictor (Boa constrictor). The predominance of mammalian mortality and Rodentia, Pilosa and Carnivore orders was found, during the flood period. Due to the relevance of this study, it is necessary to constantly monitor wild animals in the region, to know their biology and mainly to create public policies aimed at inspection, conservation and minimizing the impacts caused on these natural ecosystems.
