Water distribution systems can present losses that compromise the supply of consumers in quantity (interruption) and product quality. Considering the scarcity of this good for human consumption and economic activities, the objective of the study was to carry out an exploratory analysis of spatial data on the losses of water distribution systems in the municipalities of the state of Paraná. The results showed the existence of Alto-Alto clusters for the municipalities of the metropolitan mesoregions of Curitiba and Norte Central and Pioneiro. The indices presented for the Alto-Alto clusters imply loss of revenue, possible disruption of supply and decrease in water quality. These locations must prioritize investments for maintenance and rehabilitation of networks with the identification of leaks and replacement of pipes. The data indicated the existence of larger cities that are more efficient and relatively small cities that are more inefficient in their water distribution system. Case studies can be carried out to analyze these municipalities and to identify different situations and their causes.Key words: water, environment, Paraná, water distribution.
