This research presents a case study of a Brazilian distributor of hygiene and cleaning products established in Maringá in the state of Paraná, which uses in its commercial activities mechanical paper towel dispensers. A comparison between the spatial volume occupied by the product in its natural and fragmented state was performed. The results showed that the product is composed of approximately 80% of thermoplastic polymer ABS - Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, being 48% virgin material and 32% recycled material. The reduction in the spatial volume occupied by the product after agglutination was approximately 80%. The financial cost for this reduction was 7.14% higher than the system used by the company, which disposed of the dispensers in landfill. Finally, another alternative found was the sale of these agglutinated residues, for the use of the material that composes it, yielding profits for the company and reducing its expenses. The study concludes that the sale of waste is the most viable alternative for the company and also contributes with relevant data on the capacity to reduce the spatial volume of solid waste. When these are not used and are destined to landfills, their reduction will provide the increase of the useful life of landfills.
