This study aimed to analyze the relevance and percentage of vegetation cover and land use around the Saulo Maia reservoir, in Areia-Paraíba. With tabulated data from maps projected from images obtained from the MapBiomas Project and worked on via QGIS software. Six collections of maps were produced, each collection containing new changes in the coverage periods of the annual maps, such as changes in the legend or corrections against the previous version. All project processing is done in raster format, pixel by pixel, and its area calculation is also done in raster format. We sought to analyze comparative data between respective periods, in the years 2000, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2019 in order to see the evolution of the area after the creation of this dam, which is so important for the municipality and the region of the swamp of Paraíba. The worked sample area always presents constant changes and the predominance of 3 classes of land use, occupying more than 80% of the total area and with small variations in the other classes. This study can open up a much wider range of research, having the same direction, but focused on other areas of study, as other types of more in-depth classifications in the biome, or classes of areas more prone to fire or flood risks, works that can contribute to the life of the region's residents.
