Environmental noise, despite being usually ignored, is one of the main environmental pollutants. Noise pollution damages health, the economy and the environment. This work aims to evaluate the noise generated in a metal-mechanical industry, installed in a residential area in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, Brazil. To analyze the noise pollution caused by the industry, the sound pressure levels equivalent to the high ones generated by forklifts, presses and the noise of the industry were measured, in the day and night periods. Diagnostic noise maps made in the Predictor software were calculated in order to assess the current situation and project industrial noise attenuation measures. The relevant results show that the noise generated exceeds the levels of legislation in all defined scenarios, exposing around 3915 people to these levels. Daytime noise reaches 63 dB (A) in Leq inhabited areas and 67 dB (A) for night noise. The noise from the forklift was 84 dB (A) and from the press was 74 dB (A). The actions proposed for the control of industrial noise, day and night, and for the specific noise generated by the forklift and press, minimized sound propagation in urban areas to acceptable levels. Finally, it is concluded that acoustic maps associated with refined in-situ are great tools to determine the sound impact, helping to reduce sound levels.
