Protected areas are territorial spaces that are legally protected and have ecosystem services that can contribute to sustainable development strategy. Measuring ecosystem services of Conservation Units and how much these environmental services promote well-being for society can contribute to meeting international commitments assumed by Brazil. The objective was to analyze the ecosystem services, identified through an index of ecosystem well-being, of two distinct conservation units in the State of Ceará, correlating them with the fulfillment of certain international commitments. The present investigation used the method of comparative analysis of two cases: Environmental Protection Area (APA) of Serra de Baturité and Area of Relevant Ecological Interest (ARIE) Sítio Curió, with an analysis of five factors. The method calibration followed performance ranges ranging from 0 (zero) for the worst situation to 1 (one) for the best situation. Considering the five factors, the performance of ARIE Sítio Curió was high; in contrast to the performance of APA Serra de Baturité, considered very low. The five factors analyzed from both conservation units can provide important information to help managers and society in the necessary response to the main stressors (loss of biodiversity, unsustainable occupations and illegal practices). The results show that the two analyzed conservation units in Ceará, in some way, help to achieve national and international biodiversity goals and for achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 15.
