Internal control in fraud prevention: a case study of the Brazilian Army

This article presents a study on the evaluation of the results of Internal Control in the prevention of fraud in the Brazilian Army. Internal control is an activity foreseen in the Constitution of the Federative Republic of Brazil, showing the important role of this activity in the prevention of irregularities and illegalities in the public administration. The research strategy used was qualitative research, of a descriptive nature and based on data collected through documentary research and semi-structured interviews, carried out with five military personnel. The content of the interviews was treated through content analysis. The conclusions point out that the internal control activity in the Brazilian Army is well structured and permeates its entire structure, acting in a systemic way, which allows the implementation of preventive and corrective measures of the detected non-conformities, being fundamental for the good management of administrative acts . In addition, there is a constant concern to improve the effectiveness of governance processes, risk management and meeting the demands of society.
