The pharmacist's contribution to the pharmacological treatment of depression: a review

Abstract

Pharmaceutical care concerns the proper guidance to the patient, in cases involving depression it is important to understand which the main aspect will be harmed by the disease, and in cases where depression occurs through pressure in the work environment, it is important to understand that the drugs administered cannot cause extreme drowsiness in the patient, as he will need to readjust his work routine using the medication. To analyze the pharmacological treatment of depression through antidepressants and the contribution of the pharmacist as a guide for drug use. Integrative literature review supported by the following databases NCBI/PubMed (National Center for BiotechnologyInformation), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Lirary Online), Academic Google and Lilacs - Bireme (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Sciences of the Health). To delimit the contents, inclusion criteria were used: articles available in full, in Portuguese and English, from 2014 to 2021 with free access and that were relevant to the theme. In the ten articles analyzed, depression is presented as a disease that requires immediate pharmacological intervention, the promotion of health and quality of life in all areas of life, including at work, it is necessary that the pharmacist promote a clear guidance and ensuring patient safety in the use of drugs. It was concluded that the pharmacist is the professional trained to reinforce the guidance on the use of psychotropic drugs, as well as to analyze the patient's evolution, and to understand the nuances of pressure in the work environment is essential for guidance on the medications that do not cause extreme drowsiness to the patient.
