The use of wastewater in agricultural production is sustainable alternative to the reality of the semi-arid region of Brazil. The objective was to review a chemical soil by the use of treated wastewater. The experiment was conducted in the Settlement Project Miracle in Apodi, RN. It was chosen an area of native forest, missing the release of effluent; and an area cultivated with elephant grass irrigated with treated wastewater. Sampling for assessment of soil occurred during the dry period and after the rainy season. For each period, we collected 24 samples in ridge cultivation and 55 in irrigation furrows. The samples were collected at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm and 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm, 20-40 cm, 40-60 cm and 60-80 cm respectively, serving for preparation of composite samples. In the native area adopted the random collection procedure totaling 20 single samples at depths of 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm, 20-40 cm, 40-60 cm and 60-80 cm. We assessed physical-chemical parameters, heavy metals (Mn, Fe, Zn, Cu, Ni and Pb) and organic matter such as soil quality indicators. It was found that the total nitrogen concentration, P, K, Ca, Na, Mg, and organic matter had their high levels when compared to RA, and was not detected the presence of heavy metals in the irrigated area.
