Port activities are fundamental for the development of the globalized economy, however, they can cause environmental impacts, such as those related to the inadequate solid waste management. In this scenario, there is a lack of information and data regarding the generation and collection of solid waste on board the vessels to assist in the advancement of waste management processes. The aim of this study was to analyze the management processes in the collection of solid waste from vessels that dock at a sea port in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The management of solid waste in the internal area of ports follows specific protocol steps that must be improved and disseminated, for a better understanding of port waste management. The monthly collection between the months of January to October 2019, recyclable waste had the highest volume collected, highlighting the month of September that had the highest collection (201.5 m³) compared to the other months. The collection of waste by category of vessels, on the other hand, recyclable waste showed a higher collection than other types of waste in all categories of vessels, totaling 919.788 m. Draga type vessels totaled six units and had a higher total volume of waste (1186.25 m3), compared to other categories. Through this work, it can be concluded that the identification of the types of waste generated in the different categories of vessels allows to define the methods for their proper destination, taking into account the PNRS.
