Family businesses are important in the Brazilian economy, representing more than 90% of formal companies in the country. However, these projects have high levels of mortality and among the main causes is the succession process. Thus, the objective of this article is to describe the succession process in a family business, identifying similarities with the existing literature and exposing the results obtained by the company object of this study. For this, a medium-sized family business was selected, located in the city of Linhares, Espírito Santo, which has been in the market for 28 years and is going through its first succession process. A structured script with 17 questions was sent to the company to be answered by the successor and the founder. The results found show that the company is managing to carry out a succession process without major problems and, in part, is following what is proposed by the literature. Those that the company differs from the one studied so far, do not seem to pose any major problems thanks to the established governance structure and the corporate culture linked to family culture.
