The use of extenders that guarantee the protection of the sperm cell is of great importance, not only to guarantee a better quality in the thawing and maintenance of the fertilization capacity, but mainly aiming at a capable and healthy lineage. In this context, studies based on the use of better substances for the management and preservation of cells are conducted every year, in different species. In this review, we present some deliberations and studies related to two diluents and an additive, still used timidly, but with encouraging results. Both TEYP and TRIS-honey have been shown to protect spermatozoa from damage caused by the cold, especially in DNA, often demonstrating results superior to those of more known and extensively used substances, and there seems to be an indication of the possibility of successfully using a mixed diluent, with the two substances. Epididymosomes are extracellular vesicles secreted in the epididymis, being responsible for the process of sperm maturation, elimination of defective sperm and protection from oxidative stress, among others. It is hoped that at the end of this dispute, colleagues will be encouraged to work with these unorthodox substances, but with encouraging results.
