One of the environmental problems arising from the urbanization process is the final disposal of solid waste. In places such as Vila de Caratateua, municipality of Curuçá (PA), a lack of waste management is worrying, as the village is surrounded by the Caratateua River. In this context, this article aimed to analyze the environmental perception of residents of the local community, in relation to the generation, destination and environmental impacts arising from solid waste management. The results were obtained through questionnaires obtained from the local population and displayed through graphs selected by the Excel software and thematic maps, in order to illustrate the reality of the study area. It was found that community residents have empirical knowledge in relation to environmental concepts, however, as a result of the implementation of regular collection, implemented only in 2018, a part of the community still inadequately disposes of its waste, such as burning it and/or dumping them into rivers and streams. In this sense, it is necessary that, in addition to the implementation of local public policies for waste management, actions and programs that raise environmental awareness among the residents of Vila de Caratateua must be configured.
